Considered one of Mexico’s favorite destinations, Acapulco is a charming place on the coast of the state of Guerrero, famous for its golden sandy beaches facing the Pacific Ocean, its tropical weather, magnificent sunsets, delicious cuisine and, above all, the charisma of its people. For these reasons, and because at NexusTours we want you to make the most during your vacation in Acapulco, here are the attractions and flavors that you should not miss.
La Quebrada Cliff Divers
Challenging heights and danger day after day, these brave warriors from Acapulco climb the 45-meter high cliff known worldwide as La Quebrada. Reaching the top and after praying in the altar to the Virgin of Guadalupe that is on the summit, they wait for the powerful waves to fill the narrow channel of barely 7 meters wide and 4 meters deep, and they jump into the void at almost 90 km/h!
This famous show has been going on since 1930, and being a cliff diver of La Quebrada is already a tradition passed down from generation to generation. Whether you want to admire these warriors at day or in the evening, at NexusTours we have front-row seats and a delicious à la carte dinner for you: Cliff Diver Show with Dinner.
The Seafood at La Cabaña de Caleta Restaurant
The traditional a la talla fish, fresh clams, stuffed chili with seafood, or the famous Acapulco’s ceviche are some of the dishes of La Cabaña de Caleta, a quaint seaside restaurant whose exquisite cuisine has been recognized since the 1950s.
In addition to live music, lockers, showers and lounge chairs at its beach club, it offers banquet service for events and holds a romantic full moon party by the sea on weekends. Don’t miss the lovely landscape of this Acapulco’s bay and if you have a large family, the recommendation here is to order the extravagant seafood tray: enormously delicious!
Boat ride through Coyuca Lagoon
Located 10 kilometers north of Acapulco, on the zone known as Costa Grande (Big Coast), Coyuca Lagoon is a true paradise on earth. This secluded place is home to more than 250 species of endemic and migratory birds, which year after year travel from Canada to enjoy the warm weather. But birds are not the only ones who take advantage of the natural beauty of the Coyuca Lagoon; it has also been the scenario for successful Hollywood movies, such as Tarzan, Rambo II and the Queen of Africa.
During the first days of September, the feast for the Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre (Our Lady of Charity), patron saint of fishermen, takes place. It consists of a procession of families aboard numerous decorated boats. At the end of the Fishing Tournament, this community opens the bar, which is the fragment of sand that divides the Coyuca Lagoon with the Pacific Ocean. This prevents homes on the banks from being flooded by the rising river and marks the beginning of a new cycle.
Barra de Coyuca is also a paradise for surfers and bodyboarders and is ideal for spending a lovely day with the family. If you want to visit this magnificent place, in NexusTours we have the perfect excursion for you: Coyuca Lagoon Tour.
And there is much more!
The famous Avenue Costera Miguel Aleman, an unforgettable panoramic view of Puerto Marques’ bay, the legendary Los Flamingos hotel, the Capilla de la Paz (Chapel of Peace) -located in the highest point of the city- and, of course, the traditional Thursday of pozole, are some of the attractions that force us to say let’s go to Acapulco!
