Currency in our Nexus destinations

One of the most important and essential things that we must take into account when planning any trip is the currency of the destination we are going to and the exchange rate, this helps us to plan the budget more efficiently and have better control over what we spend to have a healthy economy and prevent to end up with debt.

Here we present the currency of our Nexus destinations, as well as its equivalent in Mexican pesos and American dollars to help you with the organization of that long-awaited trip.

Mexico – The official currency of this country is the Mexican peso (MXN), which is approximately equivalent to:

  • 1 MXN (Mexican peso) = 0.52 USD (US dollar)

Although the official currency is the Mexican peso (MXN), some tourist sites receive US dollars (USD), however, it’s preferable to have the local currency.

Cuba – In Cuba, the currency used for tourists is the Cuban convertible pesos (CUC), which are approximately equivalent to:

  • 1 CUC (Cuban peso) = 19.17 MXN (Mexican pesos)
  • 1 CUC (Cuban peso) = 1 USD (US dollar)

Dominican Republic – In the Dominican Republic the Dominican peso (PDO) is used and its approximate equivalence is:

  • 1 DOP (Dominican peso) = 0.36 MXN (Mexican pesos)
  • 1 DOP (Dominican peso) = 0.01 USD (US dollar)

Jamaica – The official currency of Jamaica is the Jamaican dollar (JMD), which is approximately equivalent to:

  • 1 JMD (Jamaican dollar) = 0.14 MXN (Mexican pesos)
  • 1 JMD (Jamaican dollar) = 0.007 USD (US dollar)

Bahamas – On this island the Bahamian dollar (BSD) is used, which is approximately equivalent to:

Panama – Panama’s Balboa (PAB) is used in Panama and its approximate equivalence is:

In some tourist areas, US dollars (USD) are accepted, however, it’s preferable to have the local currency.

Costa Rica – The official currency of this country is the Costa Rican colon (CRC), which is approximately equivalent to:

  • 1 CRC (Costa Rican Colon) = 0.03 MXN (Mexican pesos)
  • 1 CRC (Costa Rican Colon) = 0.001 USD (US dollar)

Santa Lucia – In Santa Lucia the East Caribbean dollar (XCD) is used and its approximate equivalence is:

  • 1 XCD (East Caribbean dollar) = 7.08 MXN (Mexican pesos)
  • 1 XCD (East Caribbean dollar) = 0.37 USD (US dollar)

There may be some areas where US dollars (USD) and Canadian dollars (CAD) are accepted, however, it is preferable to have the local currency.

Honduras – The official currency of this country is the Honduran lempira (HNL), which is approximately equivalent to:

  • 1 HNL (Honduran lempira) = 0.77 MXN (Mexican pesos)
  • 1 HNL (Honduran lempira) = 0.04 USD (US dollar)

Aruba – The Aruban guilder (AWG) is used in Aruba and its approximate equivalence is:

  • 1 AWG (Aruban florin) = 10.64 MXN (Mexican pesos)
  • 1 AWG (Aruban guilder) = 0.56 USD (US dollar)

Antigua – The official currency of Antigua is the East Caribbean dollar (XCD), which is approximately equivalent to:

  • 1 XCD (East Caribbean dollar) = 7.08 MXN (Mexican pesos)
  • 1 XCD (East Caribbean dollar) = 0.37 USD (US dollar)

San Martín – On this island the Netherlands Antillean guilder (ANG) is also used, which is approximately equivalent to:

Colombia – The official currency of this country is the Colombian peso (COP), which is approximately equivalent to:

  • 1 COP (Colombian peso) = 0.0002 USD (US dollar)

Barbados – The Barbadian dollar (BBD) is used in Barbados and its approximate equivalence is:

Grenada – The official currency of Grenada is the East Caribbean dollar (XCD), which is approximately equivalent to:

  • 1 TTD (Trinidad and Tobago dollar) = 0.15 USD (US dollar)
